Welcome to the Chronicloud Series, a comprehensive exploration of various Azure products and solutions! This series aims to provide an in-depth look into different Azure services, focusing on their use cases, advantages and the best ways to implement them. Throughout these articles, we will dive into technical guides, resources and labs that will help you master these tools in real-world scenarios. What You Can Expect from the Chronicloud Series

Each article in the Chronicloud Series will focus on specific Azure products and solutions, dissecting them in 5-10 parts to provide a well-rounded understanding. From beginner-friendly overviews to advanced use cases, I will cover how these solutions can benefit your cloud infrastructure. I will link to relevant labs and hands-on exercises that I’ll create to provide you with a complete learning experience.

This article was created before Azure Stack HCI was renamed to Azure Local (link) in November 2024, which is why some references or hardcoded URLs may still point to Azure Stack HCI. 1. Azure Local
   Azure Local is a hyper-converged infrastructure solution from Microsoft that enables organizations to run virtualized workloads on-premises, with integration to Azure. This has become the most mature part of the Chronicloud Series so far and several articles are already available:

2. Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD)
   AVD offers a virtualized desktop experience in the cloud, enabling secure remote work. The Azure Local track already includes a first article on Azure Local: Azure Virtual Desktop and I will keep expanding the broader AVD topic as part of the Chronicloud roadmap. In this series, I’ll explore:
   • The benefits of Azure Virtual Desktop in comparison to traditional on-premises virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).
   • Key scenarios where AVD excels, such as enabling secure access for remote workers, development environments and legacy app compatibility.
   • Step-by-step guides to deploying AVD in different environments with optimization tips for cost efficiency and performance.
   • Labs to help you configure multi-session Windows 10/11 environments and scale them according to your needs.
3. Azure Arc Azure Arc is a tool that extends Azure management and services to any infrastructure, on-premises or multi-cloud. Arc already appears throughout the Azure Local articles, especially in VM management, AKS, monitoring and Terraform automation and I will treat it as its own topic within the series. This part of the series will discuss:
   • How Azure Arc enables hybrid cloud setups, allowing you to manage your entire IT landscape from a single platform.
   • Use cases like deploying Azure services such as Kubernetes, databases and virtual machines outside of Azure’s data centers.
   • Detailed walkthroughs on setting up Azure Arc to manage servers, containers and data services across hybrid environments.
   • Labs to demonstrate deploying Azure Arc in multi-cloud setups and enabling governance and policy enforcement.
4. Cloud PC
   Cloud PC, powered by Windows 365, provides a full desktop experience in the cloud. I will start treating Cloud PC as part of the Chronicloud roadmap, connecting it with the AVD and end-user computing content. I’ll walk you through:
   • The fundamental differences between Cloud PC and other virtual desktop solutions like AVD.
   • Scenarios where Cloud PC is the perfect fit, such as simple, cost-effective setups for distributed teams.
   • A guide on setting up and scaling Cloud PC deployments, balancing user needs with infrastructure costs.
   • Labs focusing on configuring and customizing Windows 365 environments for different business scenarios.
5. Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF)
   The Cloud Adoption Framework provides a structured approach to cloud migration and management. I will also cover CAF as the architecture and governance layer that connects the technical guides with real adoption work. This series will focus on:
   • How to use CAF to create a strategic roadmap for cloud adoption.
   • Analyzing each stage of the framework, from strategy and planning to management and operations.
   • Best practices for adopting Azure across various industries, ensuring secure, compliant and scalable solutions.
   • Labs to implement CAF principles in real-world projects, helping you align cloud services with your business goals.

At the beginning of every article in this series, I will clearly define the Scope, the intended audience and level of expertise required. Whether you’re a cloud architect, IT manager or a developer, each article will target a specific audience, ensuring that the content is both relevant and informative for your professional needs. I’ll base this scope on industry standards, typical challenges faced by professionals and feedback from readers.
